Shell names gas and renewables head to be new CEO

Shell PLC stated Thursday that it has appointed Wael Sawan as its subsequent chief government, efficient Jan. 1.

stated that Mr. Sawan will substitute Ben van Beurden, who will proceed working as adviser to the board till June 30, after which he’ll depart the corporate.

Mr. Sawan, 48 years previous, joined Shell in 1997 and has taken on expanded duties alongside main the natural-gas enterprise that’s behind Shell’s file income just lately.

“Wael Sawan is an exceptional leader, with all the qualities needed to drive Shell safely and profitably through its next phase of transition and growth. His track record of commercial, operational and transformational success reflects not only his broad, deep experience and understanding of Shell and the energy sector, but also his strategic clarity,” Shell Chairman Andrew Mackenzie stated.

Mr. van Beurden in recent times pledged to scale back the corporate’s greenhouse-gas emissions and improve its investments in renewable power. He was already a 30-year veteran when he was promoted in 2013 from his function operating its refining and advertising and marketing operations to take over as CEO, efficient since January 2014.
