The common hardwood tree captures an estimated 48 kilos of carbon dioxide per 12 months. Over the lifetime of the tree that’s roughly 1 ton of CO2. While that’s only a fraction of the typical American’s manufacturing of 27 tons of CO2 yearly, mixed with decreasing greenhouse fuel emissions, tree-planting could make a distinction.
